Lifeguard at deadly beach predicted a future sand collapse

After a court hearing at Cape May Court House, N.J., on Friday, Oct. 5, 2018, Sandra Smith discusses signs she wants the city of North Wildwood, N.J. to install at an inlet beach where Smith’s husband, Brad, drowned in 2012 when the sand he and his young daughter were walking on collapsed beneath them, plunging both into the swirling waters of an inlet. His daughter was rescued. A judge will decide within three weeks whether to dismiss their lawsuit or let it go to a jury. (AP Photo/Wayne Parry)
