WASHINGTON – The Department of Veterans Affairs National Cemetery Administration announced that it has awarded Hawaii a grant in the amount of $934,398 for the expansion of the West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery, Kailua-Kona.
“Our state and tribal partners are critical in helping NCA achieve our strategic goal of providing 95 percent of the Veteran population with convenient access to a burial option within 75 miles of their home,” said Under Secretary for Memorial Affairs Randy Reeves.
The grant will fund the construction of 480 columbarium niches, landscaping, irrigation, and supporting infrastructure. The project will develop about one acre and serve about 15,000 Hawaii Veterans and eligible family members.
