LIHUE — Courtney Clark of the BAMP Project said the money is still coming in Tuesday during a mahalo party at Rob’s Good Times Grill in the Rice Shopping Center.
“The agencies already got the hard check,” Clark said. “We realized our goal, but there is still money coming in from T-shirt (sales) and other related materials from the concert.”
Poipu Beach Athletic Club and BAMP, the lead sponsors for the Kokua for Kauai benefit concert featuring Jack Johnson, Donavon Frankenreiter, Paula Fuga, Makana and other special guests, resulted in the mahalo party where John Horwitz of the Poipu Beach Athletic Club joined Clark in presenting $122,500 to two agencies involved with disaster relief — the Hawaii Community Foundation and Hui Maka‘ainana O Makana.
“I was scared when the tickets went on sale,” Clark said. “I was on the computer watching, and in about two hours, we had already reached our goal. The response was unreal from all the people who wanted to help with disaster relief.”
A spokesperson with the Eric Knudsen Trust said the contribution to Maka‘ainana O Makana is for people who were so busy helping other people recover that they did not have time to get anything for themselves despite having their properties damaged from the recent record-breaking rains.
Horwitz said everything was just amazing.
“It does take a village, and Kauai has such a great supportive village,” Horwitz said. “Our community is truly blessed.”
