Congratulations to Janice Nitta (she was back working Friday night at the Hui Alu Okinawa Festival!) and Peter Rayno Jr. (and where was Ernie Domingo, Jeff Venzon and all those Walmart McDonald’s crew?) on being named Outstanding Older Americans!

Kudos to the county Agency on Elderly Affairs on a great recognition ceremony. It looked like the Merrie Monarch when Kealoha Takahasi, Kipukai Kuali‘i, Julie Souza and Kepa Mahi (gotta keep that gig bag in the car) did a capella and Pua Kaholokula (she was dancing to an Alison Arakawa mele at the Okinawa Festival, too), Carnation Harris, Kumu Vern and Napua Ho‘okano did hula while waiting on Hawaii First Lady Dawn Amano Ige. This was in addition to Kimberly Hope McDonough providing great violin music.
More kudos to Jonathan Chun and the Hui Alu Okinawa Club on another great festival (state Sen. Jill Tokuda — she likes the Kauai recipe — came over from Oahu to make andagi), and mahalo to Bernie Sakoda for the bag of goodies. Stephen Fujii had a really nice flowering bonsai, and Hapa House (nice to see so many Japanese and Asian-influenced goodies) sold out of the big Boys’ Day koinobori.
