LIHUE — Those interested in hearing about the Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the new municipal solid waste landfill can attend one of two meetings, set for Tuesday and Wednesday, in Lihue and Kapaa.
At the meeting, County of Kauai representatives will provide information on the DEIS for the new Kauai landfill to be located off Maalo Road.
Meetings will be held on Tuesday from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Lihue Neighborhood Center, and on Wednesday from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Kapaa Neighborhood Center.
The meetings will provide the community with the opportunity to learn and comment about the project from the county’s DEIS team in an open-house setting. Stations will be set up to provide information about the modern landfill design planned at Maalo Road, the environmental and land-use features, and the studies and surveys performed for the DEIS.
The county will provide a brief introduction, a summary of the history of the project, and the findings of the DEIS.
The public will be provided the opportunity to give oral comments on the DEIS that will be considered in the preparation of the Final EIS. Anyone who wishes may also submit written comments on comment forms provided at the meetings, or by mail with a postmark no later than May 23.
