Who took Dickie Chang’s shovels, Jeff Haigh of California wanted to know. Jeff creates his sand sculpture using Dickie’s shovels, but had to use the Kauai Marriott Resort &Beach Club maintenance department tools after someone cockroached Dickie’s shovels. He created an awesome Christmas display (those are dolphins surfing the waves) and is scratching his head for ideas for New Year’s and the Year of the Dog (it comes pretty close to Valentine’s Day, said Stacie Chiba-Miguel of The Shops at Kukuiula).

Kudos to John Baroni and John Copeland of the Sons of Kauai who teamed up with Donna Copeland and Donna Nunes to get some last-minutes toys for needy children Sunday during a last-chance motorcycle toy run to and from Kauai Harley-Davidson in Puhi.
More kudos to Mike Pierce of Chicken in A Barrel (they used to buy fruits from George Mukai) and the volunteers from the Calvary Chapel North Shore Kauai (Russell Haluapo got a bunch of toys for them during the recent Toys for Keiki run) on the hundreds of free Christmas dinners served up on Christmas Day in Kapaa where Malani Bilyeu was providing the entertainment before Paul Togioka took his turn with ki ho‘alu (slack-key guitar; can’t beat “Jingle Bells” on banjo) stylings.
