Louise is a 14-year-old girl who grew up on Kauai in a family with seven siblings, her grandmother and parents all living in a small house.
She faced many challenges as a young girl, including being placed in foster care, where she faced emotional challenges, including feeling rejected and abandoned. Although she is still in foster care, Louise is allowed to have contact with her parents and may be placed back at home with them.
Due to Louise’s situation and the family’s financial state, she is not able to do some activities she would like, such as going to the gym regularly.
Louise would like to have equipment for boxing, including gloves, shoes and money for classes.
This is also a way for Louise to release her emotions.
You can help Louise move on and grow with a contribution to the Garden Island/Zonta Christmas Fund, which helps hundreds of families have a bright Christmas.
Families apply for assistance through social service agencies, which in turn connect with the Zonta Club of Kauai. It uses donations to buy gift certificates for those in need, which are distributed to the families. The certificates can be used for gifts and groceries.
The Garden Island newspaper shares daily stories about those who could use assistance this holiday season. While the names are not real, the situations described are.
Donations of $100 or more will be matched by the Hale Uluwehi Kauai Fund’s offer up to $10,000, which means your gift to help those with little is doubled. The community already matched the fund’s $5,000 offer, so it was increased.
There are no administrators collecting salaries. This program is run by volunteers.
Only monetary donations are accepted. Checks, payable to Zonta Club of Kauai Foundation, can be mailed to P.O. Box 3032, Lihue, HI 96766.
