Kalo Fest today on North Shore
WAIPA — The annual Waipa Foundation Kalo Festival is today from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. next to the Halulu Fishpond on the North Shore.
Poi-pounding, silent auctions, music, educational booths and vendors are taking over the grassy area. A kalo recipe contest is open to the public, and the two categories are appetizer/entree and dessert. Entries must be delivered by 12:15 p.m.
The roots themselves will be judged in three different divisions: heaviest, biggest and best quality Hawaiian taro.
