HONOLULU — Jim Nabors, the Alabama-born comic actor who starred as TV’s dim but good-hearted Southern rube Gomer Pyle and constantly surprised audiences with his twang-free operatic singing voice, died Thursday. He was 87.

This movie aired in 1964. It was a popular hit for kids growing up in the 1970s & 1980s. WTBS. Weekday afternoons. It was a comedy hit sitcom about the military. Gomer was the main character and a real foul up soldier. It was a hilarious show to watch.
