Dr. Michael Lutwin said they even had veterans going out to get packages of candy to contribute (not buy back) to the Halloween Candy Buy Back event after learning that the “bought” candy would be sent to Armed Forces overseas.
Kudos on “doing the right thing!” Lutwin’s crew at the Kalaheo Dental Group got help from Operation Gratitude, the UPS Store at Kukui Grove and Kauai Underground Artists (KUGA), which provided a gift certificate which was given away through a random drawing of all people who brought their Halloween treats to be bought, said Joy Miura Koerte.
And down the road, Theresa Wiederoder of Ohana Sports Medicine was joined by Gregg Pacilio, the director of physical therapy at Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital and Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital, in distributing some of the slippers to Kalaheo School (it was a wild and wacky Thursday!) from the HAPTA (Hawaii Chapter of the American Physical Therapy Association) service project!
OK, this is the week when the Poipu Food and Wine Festival (remember that fabulous brunch from last year?) starts, and Chef Martina Hilldorfer is already gearing up the Kauai Community College students (they are the beneficiaries from this event that runs from Wednesday through Nov. 12) for their Chef’s Demo Wednesday at the Kauai Culinary Market at The Shops at Kukuiula.
And don’t forget the Flavors of Poipu (it’s the Flavors of Kukuiula specially branded for the five-day celebration) Friday night starting at 5:30 p.m.
