Hanalei Bay reopened after shark sighting

HANALEI — Kauai Fire Department Ocean Safety Bureau officials reopened Hanalei Bay on Friday morning after determining the water was safe for swimming.

The bay was closed Thursday when a six-foot shark was sighted breaching and thrashing near the shoreline. The type of shark is unknown.

Beachgoers are also reminded to stay out of brown and turbid water as a safety precaution.
