LIHUE — The Rotary Club of Hanalei Bay is donating 50 automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) to the communities of Kauai and Ni’ihau.
This life-saving equipment is to be donated and installed in either public or private facilities in population centers with prolonged response time of emergency 911 personnel.
The AED restarts the heart in the event of a sudden cardiac arrest and is a key element in the survival of victims when it is used in conjunction with CPR.
The Rotary Club of Hanalei Bay is also working with the Kauai Fire Department to train and familiarize people in the community with CPR and the use of AEDs.
In 2017, this program has already donated and placed 17 AEDs in the community and trained 125 people to use them and administer CPR. The program is free and available to anyone.
To learn more about the program, acquiring an AED, receiving free CPR/AED training or donating money, contact Dr. Jeff Goodman, 828-1470 or go to www.hanaleirotary.org
