MOSCOW, Idaho (AP) — Andre Nunez hooked up with Ja’Marcus Bradley for a 45-yard touchdown early in the third quarter and the Louisiana defense stopped Idaho on downs at the 30 with 1:47 to play to preserve a 21-16 win on Saturday.
Nunez took the Ragin’ Cajuns (2-3, 1-1 Sun Belt Conference), who had lost three straight, 75 yards in five plays after the second half kickoff to make it 21-10.
The Vandals (2-3, 1-1) took the early lead on a 1-yard plunge by D.J. Henderson, who also had five tackles, including 1½ sacks. Ray Dion tied it with a 3-yard run and Louisiana took the lead on a 1-yard run by Trey Ragas to cap a 14-play, 83-yard drive.
Nunez was 18 of 24 for 213 yards but the Vandals had seven sacks, 3½ by Leonard Hazewood.
Idaho pulled within five on Cade Coffey’s third field goal early in the fourth quarter. The Ragin’ Cajuns missed a long field goal with 4:54 to play and the Vandals marched from their 32 to the Louisiana 30 before throwing two incompletions when they needed 3 yards. Ragas had gains of 11 and 13 yards among his four carries to help to help run out the final 1:47.
