Hydroelectric plant on LBA agenda

Howard Greene, environmental manager, Gay & Robinson, will be the guest speaker at the Lihue Business Association meeting on Sept. 28.

He will talk on plans to develop a new hydroelectric plant on Kauai.

“It has been nearly a century since Kauai has seen a new large capacity hydroelectric plant. Gay & Robinson is actively developing the next, on an existing irrigation ditch system,” according to a flier. “Its rated capacity of 6.5 megawatts equals roughly 10 percent of Kauai’s average electrical use. It should be online as early as next year.”

The meeting is 7:30 to 9 a.m. at Duke’s Canoe Club, Kalapaki. It is free and open to the public.
