KAUMAKANI — A male visitor died Friday morning while snorkeling in waters about 40 yards off shore fronting Kaumakani.
Police identified him as Harold Edwards, 76, of California.
While snorkeling during a charter Na Pali boat tour, the victim was noticed as unresponsive in the water. Crew members brought him onto the boat and immediately began CPR until medics arrived.
He was transported to Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Volunteers from Life’s Bridges, a grief-counseling service, are assisting the man’s family, according to a county press release.
An investigation continues.
