Two hurt in accident

KALAHEO — Two people were hurt in a two-car collision on Kaumualii Highway Saturday.

The accident occurred shortly before 10:30 p.m. near mile-marker 13, when a westbound Honda Accord crossed the center line and hit an oncoming Ford Explorer head-on, police said.

Both the 31-year-old male driver of the Honda Accord and the 27-year-old female driver of the Ford Explorer were transported to Wilcox Medical Center with serious injuries. Both were reported to be in stable condition Monday.

The highway was closed while officers investigated the scene, and traffic was diverted through Halewili Road. The highway reopened about 3 a.m. Sunday.

An investigation continues.
