Happy Camper for Friday, August 11, 2017

There’s still time — Josie Pablo said people are welcome to join the Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital residents for the final bon dance (what flavors of Flying Saucer is Arnold Leong going to create?) of this year, starting at 6 tonight at the hospital.

Sonia Topenio and Katie Beer are going full blast getting ready for the 120th anniversary Salvation Army event where Chef Guy Higa is collaborating with the Culinary Institute of the Pacific to create a fabulous evening at the Kauai Marriott Resort and Beach Club. Sonia said they’re pushing to get people there by 4:30 p.m.

All of that comes before Olivia Gegen celebrates her birthday Saturday in Hanalei (right in the middle of the sand castle event and the Relay for Life of North Shore). And, who’s going to the Waipa Music & Mango Festival that takes place Sunday at the Halulu Fishpond?

Scott Giarman of the Kauai United Way said time is running out for nonprofit social service organizations to file applications for a piece of the $14,700 federal Emergency Food and Shelter program funds. Deadline for the applications is noon, Aug. 21.

Congratulations to Kelta O’Rourke of the Kauai Junior Lifeguards for finding gold (No. 1 in Beach Flags) in Florida! Kudos, too, to all the Junior Lifeguards for doing such a great job representing not only the Garden Island, but Hawaii as well!
