LIHUE — The 42nd Hawaii State Senior Softball Tournament moves to Oahu this year after being hosted on Kauai last year. The tournament will be held Aug. 6-12 at the Patsy T. Mink Central Oahu Regional Park in Waipio.
This year’s Kauai Senior Citizens Softball Association winners are the East Kauai Gents, who recorded a 23-1 overall season record.
Kauai will send 11 teams to the state tournament. The Gents will represent Kauai in the A division. Also competing will be the Ohana Motors Rebels (B Division), Lihue A’s and Barteks (C division), West Kauai and Ohana (D division), Islanders and Rookies (E division), East Kauai Legends (F division), Kawaihau (G division) and Hanamaulu Hillsiders (H division).
“Even though we’re one of the smaller islands, we have the same number of teams as Maui and some of the most competitive teams in senior softball,” said league coordinator Jeffrey Kimoto. “Our players are looking forward to this longtime tradition and the camaraderie with fellow island players.”
This year’s tournament format has been modified slightly. It will be split into two brackets, upper and lower, and minimum five games with single elimination. The lower brackets (E to H divisions) will play Aug. 7-9, and the upper (A to D divisions) will play Aug. 10-12.
