LIHUE — Sound technicians and lighting designers, comics, filmmakers, and musicians — Aug. 24 is your chance to get on board with Austin, Texas’ South by Southwest Conference and Festivals.
Hosted at the Kauai Beach Resort from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., SXSW Senior Regional Development Manager Phil Tripp is looking for representation in gaming, film, music and comedy from Hawaii in the series.
“Our three major festivals and conference are a great opportunity for Hawaiians to network, broaden contacts and show their wares to an eager audience of global delegates.” Tripp said.
Hawaii joined the SXSW showcase in the late 90s with HAPA. In 2009, John Cruz, Anuhea, David Tamaoka, Pimpbot and One Right Turn played a series of showcases.
Most of Hawaii’s representation at SXSW has been in the music realm, and that’s what Tripp is trying to change.
“We want to open SXSW more to the rich variety of tech resources from the islands, hence these meetings introducing both invited veterans and potential first-timers,” Tripp said.
There is no charge but attendees must RSVP.
