KAPAA — Internationally renowned artist Wyland painted 100 Whaling Walls that span the globe. Wyland revisited two of these famous murals at Kauai Village Shopping Center to remake them.
In celebration, the public is invited to an unveiling of the completed wall project on Friday, Aug. 11, beginning at 3 p.m.
“A Time for Conservation,” first painted on the Kauai Village Shopping Center clock tower in 1991, will be redone by Wyland and unveiled by him on Aug. 11. The event also includes dedication remarks by Mayor Bernard Carvalho, Wyland and live entertainment.
“We are proud to be part of Wyland’s legacy, with Kauai Village Shopping Center’s Whaling Walls. His artistry not only adds beauty to our community, but also reminds us to respect ocean life,” said Cliff Ogata, of ValueRock Realty Partners, the owners of Kauai Village Shopping Center.
Kauai Village Shopping Center also features the Whaling Wall “Humpbacks off the Pali Coast,” facing Kuhio Highway, on the building that will house Ross Dress for Less. Wyland updated this mural in January.
