Body boarder saved in Poipu

POIPU — A 19-year-old body boarder was saved in waters fronting the Kiahuna Plantation in Poipu on Tuesday.

Shortly before 1 p.m., Kauai Fire Department and Ocean Safety Bureau personnel responded to the scene after witnesses reported seeing the woman waving for help and called 911.

KFD and OSB personnel reached the San Diego woman within minutes and safely paddled her back to shore.

The woman was visibly shaken, but did not report any major injuries and refused medical treatment. First responders reunited the woman with her family members before leaving the scene.
