Pedestrian struck in Lawai

LAWAI — A 27-year-old male is in stable condition after he was struck by an eastbound vehicle while attempting to cross Kaumualii Highway in Lawai shortly after 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The man was attempting to cross the highway when he was struck by a Honda sedan driven by a 69-year-old female fronting the 7-Eleven store in Lawai.

Witnesses at the Monkeypod Jam cafe said while they did not see the actual incident, they heard people from the Lawai post office calling for people to call 911.

The pedestrian was transported to the Wilcox Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the car did not report any injuries.

According to the preliminary police investigation, the man was not walking in a marked crosswalk at the time he was hit. Kauai Police Department officers facilitated two-way traffic flow around the accident scene while Kauai Fire Department and American Medical Response medics responded.

The investigation is continuing.
