Kudos and congratulations to Rotarians Josie Cortez and Ron Margolis (Gwen Margolis said someone has to live with him) on a great 29th annual Taste of Hawaii hosted by the Rotary Club of Kapaa at the Smith’s Tropial Paradise (you gotta go check out the Michael Wong hibiscus)!
It didn’t matter that Marynel Valenzuela had her Kauai Fashion Weekend the night before (Sonia and Eddie Topenio had the transition wired) because Ron Wiley was able to do two gigs in less than a day, and designer Chanterelle Chantara was out doing her tasting. U‘i Bandman was able to drop off Nita Pilago (she sold out of her fashions at the Kauai Fashion Weekend!) before getting to Smith’s.
Lynn Nagaoka came over with her family (and where were the TV news crew for Ashley Nagaoka?) to visit Chef Guy Higa and the Kauai Marriott ohana. It’s been nearly a decade since Sweet Marie’s relocated to Kalihi, but Marie Cassel came back to offer her “baked goods (macaroons)” at the Taste … how do mini cupcake cups fit into the stack of growing paper plates that Beau Acoba refused to throw away until after the event?
OK, back down to earth … this weekend is The King’s Parade starting at 9 a.m. Saturday from Vidinha Stadium (Lance Okasaki has police badge stickers at K-PAL football if you want one) to the Historic County Building.
