Bubba Burgers closes Hanalei location

HANALEI — After catering to the community for over 20 years, Bubba Burgers has shut down its Hanalei location.

John Greco, an owner of Bubba Burgers, said the burger joint closed at the end of its lease agreement in October 2016.

“After months of negotiations, the three parties involved were unable to come to an agreement that would lead to a new lease with (the) Hanalei Center,” according to a statement from the eatery.

Replacing Bubba Burgers in the Hanalei location is Federico’s Fresh-Mex Cuisine.

“We wish the new tenant great success and happy times for all,” the statement added.

The long-time burger eatery opened its doors on Kauai in 1990 and still has locations in Kapaa and Poipu.

In 2013, the Bubba Burgers Hanalei location made national headlines after Facebook CEO and founder Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan were photographed having the restaurant’s food.
