Carol Ann Davis had to delay her Cinco de Mayo festivities Friday (Happy Children’s Day!) since the Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School student art show opened.
Kudos to CKMS art teachers Kristi Gibbs, Leslie Frasier (Carol Ann said they used to swim together), and Tim Saunders on culling a great collection of their students’ work.
Mikaela Corpuz — she did the welcome Penguin — said her sister Pamela also was doing art when she performed with the Koloa Keiki Ukulele Band Wednesday at The Shops at Kukuiula, and Lane Griffith, the Kalaheo School music director, was thinking of bringing some of his student musicians for background music while he checked out his son Asher’s work.
Kristi said a big mahalo should go to the Kauai Society of Artists (Carol Ann and Eve Solomon are doing some gallery sitting, too) for donating space for the student art show, and an even bigger mahalo should go to CKMS Principal Debbie Badua for supporting the arts and enabling this to take place.
This is the third year Kristi has done the student art show, and she said hopefully there will be more time for the next one so she can get the students to do another origami piece.
The student art show runs through May 14 (it’s Mother’s Day!) with Safeway providing some refreshments for Mother’s Day.
