LIHUE — A downed transmission line in Lawai caused a power outage, affecting parts of Kapaa, Lihue and the south shore Wednesday.
The outage, which occurred at 10:08 a.m., disrupted power to 40 percent of Kauai Island Utility Cooperative customers, according to Beth Tokioka, a spokesperson for KIUC.
About 97 percent of those impacted had their power restored within seven minutes, she said.
”The bulk of the remaining customers in Lawai and surrounding areas were restored by approximately 11:35 am,” she said. “After that, just a very few remaining customers remained out on Akemama Road due to the downed line.”
