WAILUA — Police have identified the body found Sunday near Ka‘apoko Tunnels Trail.
Fiona Choi, of Lihue, was attempting to cross the stream Saturday afternoon along the Ka‘apoko Tunnels Trail with a group of people when she slipped, fell and was swept away.
The 26-year-old managed to grab onto a rock downstream, but when the group hiked to that spot, she was gone. The group searched for Choi, but couldn’t find her, hiked out and called for help about 5:30 p.m.
R-3 aboard Air-1 searched for the Choi upstream and downstream and ended search about 7:30 p.m.
Aerial search operations resumed at 6 a.m. Sunday morning with R-3 following the trail in Air-1, searching up and down the river.
Choi’s body was found about 7 a.m. in the Wailua stream.
