Household hazardous waste collection on this weekend

LIHUE — County officials announced that household hazardous waste will be collected free of charge on Saturday and Sunday.

Among the items that will be accepted are automotive products, lead-acid batteries, lawn and garden products, oil-based paints, thinners and stains, fluorescent lights and batteries.

The collection will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the following locations:

• Hanalei refuse transfer station, 5-3751 Kauhi Highway, on Saturday.

• Kapaa Baseyard, 4900 Kahau Road, on Saturday.

• Hanapepe refuse transfer station, 4380 Lele Road, on Sunday.

• Lihue refuse transfer station, 3450 Ahukini Road, on Sunday.

No commercial or farm waste will be accepted. Latex paint will not be accepted as it is not considered household hazardous waste.
