Annual hare and hound, poker run races May 7

The fifth annual Boy’s Day Hare and Hound & Poker Run races, hosted by the Garden Island Motorcycle Club, are set for May 7 in Omao.

The races are held in memory of Kapa Moke Jr., who died in a swimming accident in 2012. He was 3 years old.

The hare and hound races, in which riders collect checkpoints along the course and the first to turn in with all the checks wins, will have a Class A for expert riders and a Class B for intermediates.

In the poker runs, in which racers collect cards instead of checks and the whoever gets the best hand wins, there will be a Class C for novice and a Class D for beginners.

Participants can sign up the morning of the event. Gates will open at 6 a.m. Registration will begin 7 a.m., and the races will start at 9 a.m. Registration is $40 for adults and $20 for keiki 12 years old and younger.

There is a $2 parking fee.

Free carnival games, shave ice and fish pond, and prizes are part of the event.
