The Kauai Lifeguard Association Ocean Minded Community Campaign will receive a boost from sales of Koloa Rum cocktails offered at Brennecke’s Beach Broiler, the Kauai Marriott, Hukilau Lanai and by Tiki Iniki.
“KLA is such an important organization for all of us to support,” said Jeanne Toulon, director of public and media relations for Koloa Rum. “It is an honor for Koloa Rum to be able to give back to the community and our visitors to help save lives.”
This is the second year in a row that Koloa Rum has assisted in KLA’s efforts to Help Save Lives.
“It’s always refreshing to see our Kauai community come together in so many ways when it comes to safety at our beaches and ocean,” said Andy Melamed, KLA spokesman. “And Koloa Rum is a prime example of such. They make our efforts a whole lot easier”.
Portions of the proceeds from Koloa Rum cocktails will be donated to the KLA time share briefing program that reinforces safety through the year.
KLA also recently introduced a new ocean-safety video featuring Kauai’s lifeguards, Dickie Chang and others.
The points of discussion include going to lifeguarded beaches for guidance and information, recognizing rip currents and what to do if you are caught in one, where to find and how to use rescue tubes, and how to use snorkel gear and to always snorkel with a buddy along with avoid climbing on wet rocks near the shoreline or a flood prone stream.
The overriding theme of the safety campaign is, know the conditions, know your limits and when in doubt, do not go out.
