LIHUE — A women veterans workshop will be held at the Kauai Veterans Center from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
The workshop with a theme of “E Hui Like Mai Na Wahine Koa ‘O Kauai — Join Together Women Warriors of Kauai” is a free, fun and informative day for women who have served, or are serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.
“This workshop is important because it gives Kauai’s women veterans an opportunity to voice their concerns, and know what benefits they are entitled to as well as how to access them,” said Major General (retired) Mary Kay Hertog.
She said female veterans are among the fastest-growing group of veterans being treated by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
“We have many of the same physical and mental health care needs that male veterans do,” Hertog said.
“But we also have unique needs as well. These needs must be addressed.”
There will be information on health care, yoga, self defense and more.
Col. (USAF retired) Shirlene Dela Cruz Santago Ostrov is the keynote speaker.
Refreshments and lunch will be provided.
