LIHUE — In recognition of International Women’s Day, several organizations are hosting a celebration at the Kauai Community College Performing Arts Center today.
The event, which will take place from 4:30 p.m. to 9:30, will kick off with an overview of state and federal legislation by attorney Joe Moss. A Civics 101 workshop facilitated by Lisa Ellen Smith and Michael Golojuch will follow. The workshop will center on how to advocate for legislative bills.
Copies of the Bill of Rights that were donated by the American Civil Liberties Union will be distributed to the first 200 attendees.
At 7:15 p.m., a film directed by Kamala Lopez will be shown. “Equal Means Equal” spotlights wage discrimination, poverty, reproductive health care, domestic violence, pregnancy discrimination and other issues faced by women.
Representatives of the ACLU, Kauai County Committee on the Status of Women, YWCA of Kauai, Zonta Club of Kauai, Kauai Indivisible and other advocacy groups will be on hand to answer questions.
