Marga Goosen, the site leader for Ocean Count at the Ahukini site, found out she and Jadrnka Kursa of Berlin come from the same town in Germany — Nuremberg, where the Hitler trials were held.
Kursa, a social media professor in Berlin, was in town doing journalism work for German Public Radio. She wasn’t the only European as Walter Lutz played Good Samaritan by providing Ann-C Giraudineau of Normandy, France, a place to stay after learning the French girl was sleeping on the beach in Waimea during their meeting at the Waimea Town Celebration film festival.
They dropped in on a conversation with Louise and Ming Leung of Victoria, Canada, who were photographing the Waimea Roundup Rodeo after spending time celebrating a wedding on Oahu.
Jean Souza was getting all kinds of press for the Ocean Count when, in addition to Jadrnka doing a radio piece, Mavis Aiu popped in to do a piece for Urban Sketchers, an all-volunteer nonprofit dedicated to fostering a global community of artists who practice on-location drawing.
And in case we forgot the humpback whales, Lani Tamanaha Broadbent, the Ahukini site leader with Marga, said there was a handful of activity.
