Forum page gets people talking

I want to thank The Garden Island editors for their wonderful Forum page. I think this page is the heart of the paper, a page so many people turn to first.

I was particularly taken by the Sunday, Oct. 16 issue featuring Allan Parachini, Birds, Brains and football. Dr. Lee Evslin’s correction of pesticide column, and those adorable two little girls, Dolores O’Rourke and Leilani Kass Save our Animals. To top it off the great political cartoon, Rogers’ “What kind of locker room is Trump hanging out in?”

More recently the fabulous column by Jed Somit, Tuesday, Oct. 18. I tried to call him — ‘Is Trump poster calamity the true tragedy?’

It should be sent to Barack Obama and delivered as is in his last State of the Union address.

To those who critiqued my “fairy tale” column about the dairy: it’s true I delight in embellishing, that’s my style, but dairies such as I wrote about exist. Look it up on your computer. We could do it here. We have the land.

You might also check out Ted Turner, the philanthropist, and his buffalo on the 133,000 acres he owns. He bought that land to protect it from development. We need more 1 percenters like him.

Once again, dear editors, thank you for my column, which appeared with Gene Lyons, my favorite columnist. I was inspired by his “Evergreen’ column” about his cows.

Bettejo Dux, Kalaheo
