Happy Camper for Oct. 21, 2016

Marge Akana said the The Welch Family, a brothers and sisters quartet of Katherine, Taylor, Annamarie and Daniel Welch, will be featured Nov. 4 at the Aha Mele, a free concert series to support the reconstruction of Kauai’s only pipe organ and the music program at the All Saints’ Church. The concert (donations are welcome) will run from 6 to 7 p.m. If you’re lucky, you get to meet Morris Wise, the project manager, who has a wealth of information on the pipe organ as well as what is being worked on.

Kudos to Renae Hamilton-Cambeilh and her YWCA of Kauai ohana on another great candlelight vigil (we got to see the debut of Halau Na Pua O Kamaile of Island School — great job, Kumu Sabra Kauka!). Makenna Safter, Celina Nabaa, Paula Kramer, Mila Dormier, Alexis Warnock and Olivia Gegen did a great job with the opening oli as well as with the hula (Kumu Sabra said she’s planning on taking the girls to Nawiliwili so they get a sense of place of what they dance about), and mahalo to Gary Ellwood of Kauai Community College (they even had their Nursing Club helping serve food as well as setting up and breaking down) for help on the logistics.
