LIHUE — Tony Brigante, a coach for the Onipa‘a Girls Under 12 team, said both the girls and Boys Under 12 teams are guaranteed four games apiece during the Hawaii International Cup soccer tournament at the Waipio Soccer Complex on Oahu.
Coach Ramon Semblante said Tuesday was the final time both teams had to practice before leaving for the tournament which starts Thursday and continues through Sunday, featuring teams from 8-and-under through 18-and-under age groups.
“I have taken the girls to this tournament before,” Semblante said. “This year, I had a little more time so I’m bringing the boys Under 12 to the tournament for their first time.”
Hosted by the Honolulu Bulls soccer club, the HIC is entering its 22nd year and touted as “Hawaii’s largest competitive soccer event.”
The tournament has attracted inquiries from teams from Australia, Denmark, Canada, and the U.S. mainland.
Joining Semblante in coaching the girls team are Junior Ehia and Brigante. Brad Celebrado joins Semblante and Ehia in coaching the boys team which feature several members of the Lihue Arsenal from the Kauai Soccer Association spring season.
The boys’ roster inlude Dwight Apao, Jayden Celebrado, Keian Celebrado, Iverson Corpuz, Makaio Gonsalves, Mason Hunt, Benjamin Kuhaulua, Tagen Maligro, Cody Manibog, Bodhi Moomaw, Lai Naihe, Nathan Rego, Joseph Sams, Braxton Silva, Ryan Stevens, Specer Summerhays, and Aron Taguiam.
Members on the girls’ team include Jaidah Ahuna, Elia Beck, Kalista Brigante, Dylan Calderon, Jessica Alexya Cezar, Briannalynn Ehia, Kayley Gardner, Adrianna Hernandez, Cassidy Hubbard, Trachelle Iwamoto, Kianalei Kamalani, Logan Kashima, Angeline Nizo, Jaeda Planas, Kailey Ruiz, Jasmine Leilani Semblante, Mackenna Tamanaha, Hanna Wamsley and Lily Watari.
