Walking for a good cause

What a rousing way to wake up Saturday morning!

A vigorous zumba warmup led by Anna Velasco, the familiar strains of KQNG Radio’s Ron Wiley and they’re off!

More than 1,700 walkers took off on a nearly three-mile loop around Lihue, starting and ending at the Historic County Building, to raise $250,000 to support Kauai’s nonprofits and charities.

The Hawaii Lodging and Tourism Association, Kauai Chapter, led by Christina Gabriel of the Marriott’s Waiohai Beach Club, hosted the 38th annual walk around town greeted at the end by breakfast prepared by some of the island’s finest resorts.

These culinary whizzes got help from Kauai Community College, which dispersed culinary arts students into the food tents and nursing students throughout the aid stations along the course.

George Thronas of the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa served as this year’s walk chairman, turning the reins over to Jim Braman of Castle Resorts for next year’s event.
