WAIMEA — Maia Young, a student at Waimea High School, was honored by Sen. Brian Schatz Tuesday for her acceptance to the U.S. Air Force Academy Preparatory School.
Young was one 17 students across Hawaii who attended a reception, hosted by Schatz, to honor their acceptance to the United States Military Service Academies, according to a release from the U.S. Senate.
Nominees were selected by a panel that included Allen Hoe, a decorated Vietnam War veteran and current Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army for East Hawaii. Applicants were considered based on their ability to meet the demands for the undergraduate education and training of officers of the United States Armed Forces.
