Happy Camper for May 4, 2016

Happy birthday to Mrs. Leonora Schies (her daughter, Eleanor Kennedy is here visiting from California) who celebrates her 101st birthday today! Nel Melchor of the Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital nursing staff celebrated her birthday with the residents at the hospital’s May Day celebration Monday.

Kudos to Josie Pablo and her staff of Juvie Bercasio, Lalaine Rbaino, and Riza Pena on a great job with the May Day court. Kauai County Council member Ross Kagawa even broke away from his teaching job to pay the residents a visit. Gary and Haunani Pacheco (congratulations on the win at the Irmalee & Walter Pomroy lei contest!) had to come down because Gary’s brother Alfred was the king.

Gary was busy, starting with the Keiki & Safety Day hosted by Wilcox Hospital and a host of other sponsors, helping put on the certified decals on the free bicycle helmets which were given away to keiki. And, of course, since Haunani was at the lei contest, there was Gary, tucked away in Happy (Tamanaha)’s corner.

Kudos to Jane Gray, Maryanne Kusaka, and all those hard-working Kauai Museum volunteers for making the lei contest special.
