Man drowns off Lawai Beach Resort

POIPU — A 57-year-old male visitor drowned Saturday afternoon in waters off Lawai Beach Resort.

Police have identified him as David Stewart of Washington, D.C.

Stewart had been swimming at approximately 4:05 p.m. when he apparently got into trouble. Firefighters from the Koloa station arrived on scene to find bystanders performing CPR.

Firefighters took over efforts to resuscitate Stewart while loading him onto an ambulance. Stewart was then transported by medics to Wilcox Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

This is Kauai’s second drowning of 2016.
