Charles (Chelo) Soto Boreliz
Charles (Chelo) Soto Boreliz, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend died at home in Fairfield, California surrounded by loved ones on Jan. 9, 2016.
He was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on July 28, 1924 (raised in Kapaa, Kauai). He served in the Third Armored (Spearhead) Division during the Battle of the Bulge in WWII. After WWII, he married his wife Olympia (Oly) on Kauai in 1947. His children, Frances, Chuck, Karen, and Rick were born on Kauai. In 1957, they moved to Sacramento, and in 1958 they moved to Hayward, where Mike was born. They later moved to San Pablo where Chelo continued his career as a sheet metal worker. In 1986, he retired to Red Bluff where he and Oly lived for 21 years before relocating to Fairfield a few years ago. Chelo was an active member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Chelo is survived by his adored wife of 68 years, Olympia Vegas Boreliz; sister, Lucy Monroid; brother, Tony Boreliz; son, Charles Boreliz (Judy); daughter, Karen Boster (Jack); son, Richard Boreliz (Susan); son, Michael Boreliz (Lori); 9 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Frances.
Chelo was an avid fisherman and gardener, and he enjoyed the company of family and friends, especially at a fun party.
A visitation will be from 11am – 1pm, at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home, located at 1850 West Texas Street, Fairfield, California, on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016, with services to immediately follow from 1-2 p.m. at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home, followed directly by a reception at Country Club Estates at 1800 East Tabor Avenue, Fairfield.

Edward ‘Eddie-Big Trucker’ Banasihan Sr.
Edward Aquino Banasihan Sr. of Kapa’a, formerly of McBryde, born on July 15, 1940 in Lihue, Kaua’i, passed away at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Jan. 7, 2016 at the age of 75.
He is preceded in death by his son, Joseph Banasihan; daughter, Virginia; grandson, Kekoa Banasihan; parents, Fidel and Leonora (Villanida) Banasihan; and brothers, Leonard Banasihan and Joseph Banasihan.
Edward is survived by his wife, Priscilla Mae Posten; three sons, Christopher Isaac Kaleinani (Feve) Banasihan of Kalaheo, Edward Aquino Banasihan Jr. of Las Vegas, and Joshua (Samantha) Banasihan; four daughters, Paula (Jerome) Dotimas of Lihue, Andrea-Nalani (Fred Jason Jr.) Land of Lihue, Elisha Lokelani Banasihan of Wailua, and Karmel-Ginger (Victor) Kupihea of Wailua; 11 grandchildren, Sharnelle Dotimas, Isaiah (Courtney) Dotimas, Lacy (Jeff) Batangan; Chelsie Banasihan, Ashley Kahalekai, Keisha Land, Cristyal Banasihan, Isaac Banasihan, Ke’ala Banasihan, Shaniece Banasihan, and Kiara Banasihan; and 11 great-grandchildren, Tashiah Cabresa-Dotimas, Kaiea Cabresa-Dotimas, Zyani Dotimas-Yadao, Adam Martin, Keali’i Dotimas, Jahzi Dotimas-Batangan, Leizjah Dotimas-Batangan, Jairez Dotimas-Batangan, Kailea Caldwell-Banasihan, Zachariah Caldwell-Banasihan, and Kaydence Caldwell-Banasihan.
Also survived by three brothers, Samuel (Bernie) Banasihan of Kekaha, Paul (Roberta) Banasihan of Kekaha, and Richard (Rinda) Banasihan of Kalaheo; two sisters, Patricia “Pat” Banasihan of Kekaha and Annette Meranian of Kekaha; and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016 at the Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo. Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. with services to start at 10:30 a.m.

Yoshie Okubo
Yoshie Okubo of Lihue passed away at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Jan. 3, 2016 at the age of 96. Born on Dec. 21, 1919 in Kapa’a, she worked in the housekeeping department at Kaua’i Surf Hotel.
She is survived by her son, Calvin (Lenora) Okubo of Waipahu; daughters, Carol Bobisud of Virginia and Luanne (Al) Lacro of Washington; six grandchildren; and numerous nieces, and nephews.
Private services were held and the family requests no koden.

Daniel K. Denny
Dan Denny of Kapa’a passed away at Wilcox Hospital on Jan. 11, 2016 at the age of 67. Born on July 7, 1948, in Springfield, Illinois, he was a property manager with Young Rentals.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Patricia Denny; and survived by his best friend, Frances Forde; son, John (Casey) Fitzgerald of Fountain Hills, Pennsylvania; two grandchildren; brothers, Mark, Sean, and Luke of Springfield, Illinois; sisters, Sara, Amy, Jill, and Josie of Springfield, Illinois; and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Celebration of Dan’s Life will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2016 at 4 p.m. by the Li’i – Kapa’a boat ramp, makai park side.

Gwendolyn Sue Hamabata, 71, of Hanapepe, Kauai, a restaurateur, died. She was born in Hanapepe. She is survived by brother Matthews and sister Marla. Private services Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2016.
