Abandoned vehicle removed

LIHUE — An abandoned vehicle was vandalized before being hauled away Monday.

The Mazda van, sans license plates, was removed from the shoulder of Kaumualii Highway, just west of the Halfway Bridge.

In the past few days, the van was spray painted and its windows were broken. It was reported to the county on Thursday, according to Mary Daubert, county spokeswoman.

Kauai ordinance identifies an abandoned vehicle as any vehicle left unattended for more than 24 hours and is unlawfully parked on any public highway, or other public property.

The public is able to report a suspected abandoned vehicle located on a public road or public property by calling the DPW Solid Waste Division at 241-4836.
