North Korea has decided to turn back its clock 30 minutes behind Japan and South Korea. The new “Pyongyang Time” took effect Saturday, which also marked the 70th anniversary of liberation from Japanese rule. Political analysts say this is a way that current leader Kim Jong Un distinguishes himself from the shadows of his father and grandfather. The Coordinated Universal Time or UTC is currently plus-9 hours for North Korea, South Korea and Japan but from Saturday, North Korea will be UTC plus-8.5 hours.
