LIHUE — Kauai County is reminding property owners that the deadline for paying real property taxes is near. The first installment for the 2015-16 tax year is due Aug. 20.
Payments can be made online at www.kauai.gov/paypropertytax, by mail, in person, or at a drop box located outside the Kapule Building at the Lihue Civic Center.
Checks should be made payable to the Director of Finance.
Real property tax bills were recently mailed to all property owners or their respective agents. Anyone who pays their real property taxes directly who has not yet received a tax bill should contact the Real Property Tax Collection office as soon as possible at 241-4272.
Failure to pay on time will result in a 10-percent penalty, as well as 12-percent interest. Failure to pay real property taxes by the due date will result in a 10-percent penalty, as well as a 12-percent interest rate per year.
