Kyosuke Hara and Kyle Suppa, both of Honolulu, fired a 4-under par 68 Wednesday during the final round of the United States Golf Association U.S. Junior Amateur Qualifier at The Club at Kukuiula in Poipu.
Hara, firing a one-under 71 during the opening round, snagged medalist honors after Suppa finished the opening round at even par 72, a stroke back. Hara advances to the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship July 20-25 at the Colleton River Plantation Club in Buffalo, New York. He ended the 36-hole tournament with a 139 (71-68) followed by Suppa at 140 (72-68) as the first alternate.
Mari Nishiura of Honolulu took medalist honors in the U.S. Girls’ Junior Amateur Qualifier Tuesday at The Club at Kukuiula. Nishiura fired a four-under 68.
Hiilani Rosa Alana was the sole Kauai golfer in the girls’ competition, finishing 12-over 84 for 21st place.
On the boys’ course, Keegan Loo of Lihue led the Kauai golfers with a three-over 75 following the opening round played Tuesday. Rilen Loo finished the opening round in a four-way tie for 17th place with an 81.
Other Kauai golfers on the course during the opening round included Keith Jose of Kalaheo, who ended at 84, tying Trevor Kua of Lihue. Kanoa Nii of Lihue finished 10 strokes ahead of his twin brother Kamden at 89, Kamden, whoended the round at 99.
No scores were available for Round 2 which was played Wednesday.
