LIHUE — Kauai Classic Cars will be gathering for its 11th year Saturday to celebrate Father’s Day at the Kukui Grove Center.
“The car show which draws a lot of interest from enthusiasts of classic cars, hot rods, trucks, motorcycles and even street cars almost did not happen this year,” said Harvey Maeda, coordinator of the gathering. “We have just about two weeks to pull everything together.”
Kukui Grove Center invites everyone to celebrate Dad’s Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with the 11th annual Kauai Classics Car Show in the parking lot between American Savings Bank and Ross Dress for Less.
Entertainment overflows into the food court stage area with the Joyful Noise taiko ensemble led by Aki Conquest, the Kapaa Middle School Choir with Mary Lardizabal directing, and a Kauai favorite, Wally Rita Y Los Kauaianos.
The entertainment is laced with demonstrations from the Puakea Golf Course, Times Supermarket, and the KQNG Radio Group joins Times Supermarket for the grand finale.
“George Nitta, the auto expert from Oahu, is flying in Saturday morning and will be on hand to talk story as well as do a demonstration on gasoline,” Maeda said. “The cars start their engines at 11:30 a.m. and 1:15 p.m.”
Maeda said this year, for the first time, there will be a Kauai Classic Cars convoy which circles the mall starting at 2 p.m.
