Kat Newman of Austin, Texas, scored big, getting a trip to Kauai as her graduation present from high school. Kat and her mom Nikole (she even scored a bon dance towel) were enjoying the Kapaa Jodo Mission bon dance where Rev. Kosen Ishikawa said we dance because by dancing, we remember our ancestors, and we also forget our mistakes (keep practicing on the sushi).
Janice Bond just sent her Australian friend home and now has her granddaughter Tasha Bond (she didn’t fall once in 40 minutes of stand up paddling at Kalapaki) from Tampa, Florida, visiting.
Aki Conquest (she’ll be at Kukui Grove Saturday for the Father’s Day weekend) and Cynthia Chiang were checking out the church’s taiko for the Joyful Noise performance, and Mandy Gokan was too busy enjoying the chili to talk about the Junior Golf Academy.
Bev Pang (she’s in charge of “Logistics” for the Relay for Life, North Shore) wanted to know which one is the West Kauai Hongwanji, Waimea temple where the bon dance takes place Friday and Saturday.
