LIHUE —A Kauai man convicted of sexual assault was sentenced to five years in prison Wednesday for failing to register as a sex offender and not complying with terms of probation.
Wyatt Godinez was originally charged with sexually assaulting a woman on June 6, 2006, according to court documents.
Fifth Circuit Court Judge Kathleen Watanabe sentenced him for failing to register as a sex offender and not comply with the terms of probation.
“This defendant has shown his plain disregard for the very reasonable restrictions put on him during his term of probation. Unfortunately the only remedy left for us to protect the community from this defendant is the prison term, and that sentence is appropriate,” Kauai Prosecuting Attorney Justin Kollar said.
A court hearing will be held to determine how long Wyatt Godinez has to serve before he is eligible for probation. The date of the court hearing has not be set.
