KAPAHI – A stretch of Kainahola Road in Kapahi will be completely closed to traffic starting May 18.
The road will be closed for approximately seven months while crews work to decommission the Upper Kapahi Dam. Motorists will need to seek alternate routes and allow additional travel time while the project is underway.
The state Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) is responsible for the project, which will breach the existing dam and require reconstructing the roadway. Future plans call for a new dam upstream of the existing dam.
