LIHUE — Friday, May 15 is the last day for residents to tell the Solid Waste office whether they want a 96- or 64-gallon refuse cart for trash collection.
A 96-gallon cart holds as much as three standard trash cans and costs $18 per month; the smaller 64-gallon cart holds the equivalent of two standard trash cans and costs $10 per month. Existing customers who want to keep their current 96-gallon cart do not need to do anything.
County officials are reminding residents that collection schedules may change as a result of the start of automated refuse collection in July.
